The Machinist position is based in Blacksburg, VA and reports to the Production Manager. This role requires proficiency in operating various machining equipment and tools, as well as the ability to work with minimal supervision and participate in continuous improvement processes.

Responsibilities

• Operate lathe, mill, and understand different styles and types of taps and dies (metric and standard)
• Operate various types of hand tools, power hand tools, grinders, drills, belt sanders, disc sanders, sand and bead blasters
• Operate and understand power band saw, cut off saw, proper selection of speeds, feeds, tooth size, guide setting, and blade replacement
• Cleaning assembly and various other tasks as required and ability to verify work completed meets requirements of blueprints, standards, and work instructions
• Solve in-process equipment and tooling challenges
• Complete machining operations with/without planning/prints
• Demonstrates skill in tool design and implement improvements to existing tooling
• Ability to verify work completed meets requirements of blueprints, standards, and work instructions
• Complete paperwork accurately and legibly
• Basic computer skills to validate documents and verify revision
• Assist in training/cross-training of others
• Participate in Continuous Improvement Process
• Work with minimal supervision
• Ability to communicate effectively
• Demonstrate ability to meet output requirements (Quality, Quantity) upon completion of probationary period
• Perform other duties as assigned

Requirements

• High School Diploma or GED required
• At least 6 years of related machining experience
• Proficient with manual and/or CNC machines
• General knowledge of speeds and feeds for lathes and mills
• Proficient in geometric dimensions and tolerancing
• Ability to lift at least 50 lbs. with or without reasonable accommodation
