About the position

The Congressional Budget Office (CBO) is seeking a macroeconomist to join its Macroeconomic Analysis Division, specifically within the fiscal policy studies unit. This role involves using economic models to evaluate the macroeconomic impacts of federal fiscal policies and analyzing various economic developments. The successful candidate will engage in dynamic analysis of legislation, conduct original research, and contribute to the agency's economic forecasts and reports.

Responsibilities

  • Assess the macroeconomic effects of specific pieces of legislation through dynamic analysis.
  • Analyze economic developments and write reports describing the analyses.
  • Carry out original economic research.
  • Construct and improve the economic models that underlie CBO's policy analyses.
  • Support the production of the division's semiannual economic forecasts.
  • Contribute to longer-term studies in collaboration with analysts from other divisions at CBO.
  • Develop work completed for the unit into working papers for CBO and articles for external publications.

Requirements

  • Ph.D. in economics or a related discipline, or a master's degree with five years of relevant experience.
  • Strong quantitative and modeling skills.
  • Experience in macroeconomic modeling, forecasting, or consulting, especially with quantitative fiscal-policy analysis is preferred.
  • Excellent communication skills, with the ability to convey technical material clearly to diverse audiences.
  • Ability to work independently and complete projects under tight deadlines.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience in consulting related to fiscal policy analysis.
  • Familiarity with dynamic scoring techniques.
