About the position

The Wisconsin Historical Society (WHS) is seeking an Operations Coordinator for the Madeline Island Museum (MIM), a key role that supports the Site Director in managing the museum's operations and enhancing the visitor experience. The MIM is located on Madeline Island, a site rich in history and culture, and serves as a gateway to the Apostle Islands and Lake Superior's historical narratives. The Operations Coordinator will oversee guest services, manage financial and administrative functions, and assist in creating engaging interpretive programs and group tours. This position is crucial for boosting attendance and revenue while ensuring an exceptional visitor experience. The museum features a modern Capser Center with an auditorium and exhibit gallery, alongside four historic buildings filled with artifacts from the fur trade era. The role requires collaboration with colleagues to connect guests with the storied past of Madeline Island and Wisconsin's history. Responsibilities

  • Oversee guest services and manage financial and administrative functions of the museum.
  • Assist the Site Director in the creation and execution of engaging interpretive programs and group tours.
  • Boost attendance and revenue through effective marketing and program promotion.
  • Ensure an exceptional visitor experience by managing day-to-day operations of the museum.
  • Collaborate with colleagues to connect guests with the history of Madeline Island and Wisconsin.

Requirements

  • Experience in long-term and short-term planning and implementation.
  • Expertise in computer skills related to project management and program promotion, including proficiency in Asana and Microsoft programs.
  • Graphic design abilities, including creating programmatic advertising, posters, email communications, and social media posts.
  • Experience in museum and/or retail operations, or special programs and event operations.
  • Knowledge and experience in retail sales and merchandising, including inventory management.
  • Experience in planning, coordinating, and executing special events and programs.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience managing point of sales systems, daily cash handling, and daily ticketing systems.
