About the position

The position of Magasinier - Fret at Air Canada involves direct interaction with the public and company employees, providing services in the freight warehouse at Chicago O'Hare International Airport. The role includes accepting and delivering freight, mail, and company materials while ensuring the accuracy of related documents and proper labeling of shipments. This is a temporary position with a starting salary of $18.72 per hour, in accordance with the collective agreement.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare and unpack pallets, unit loads, and carts, and unload trucks.
  • Store freight and COMAT on shelves, in bins, or appropriate locations, recording locations as needed.
  • Respond to information requests from the public, other carriers, agencies, and Air Canada staff.
  • Handle freight, mail, and COMAT manually or mechanically (e.g., using a forklift).
  • Drive company vehicles.
  • Accept and process shipments of hazardous or regulated materials in compliance with company and government rules.
  • In the absence of the supervisor and senior customer service agent, make necessary decisions to ensure efficient unit operation and protect company interests, documenting these decisions.
  • Inform staff verbally or in writing of changes to rules, methods, and procedures as necessary.
  • Ensure sufficient supplies and materials are available.
  • Collect and compile statistical data.
  • Contribute to investigations of damaged or incomplete shipments and complete discrepancy reports as needed.

Requirements

  • Tact, judgment, and a strong sense of initiative.
  • Ability to communicate clearly and kindly.
  • Ability to work under pressure with minimal supervision.
  • Ability to use the company's automated freight tracking and accounting system after training.
  • Commitment to wearing the company uniform as prescribed, adhering to established dress standards.
  • Valid driver's license required.
  • Ability to use company vehicles and equipment.
  • Ability to stand or sit for long periods.
  • Ability to lift loads up to 32 kg (70 lbs) without assistance.
  • Maintain an acceptable attendance record.
  • Customs seal required; subject to approval by the U.S. Customs and Border Protection or equivalent third party.
  • Security clearances required.
