About the position

The Mail and Print Service Technician position at Clayton County Public Schools is a critical role responsible for managing the setup and execution of print orders across various printing technologies, including offset presses, HP wide format printers, and digital copiers. This position ensures that all print jobs are completed efficiently and effectively, adhering to production schedules while maintaining high standards of quality and safety. The technician will also handle incoming mail and packages, ensuring proper documentation and distribution to the appropriate recipients. This role requires a blend of technical skills, attention to detail, and the ability to work under pressure to meet deadlines. In addition to printing responsibilities, the technician will perform preventive and routine maintenance on printing equipment, ensuring that all machines are functioning optimally. The role involves inspecting plates and equipment for defects, adjusting machine settings for ink distribution and color accuracy, and applying mathematical calculations to assess print orders. The technician will also be responsible for sorting interdepartmental mail, managing mailroom supplies, and utilizing electronic tracking systems to confirm deliveries. The position requires a proactive approach to maintaining a clean and safe working environment, in compliance with OSHA regulations. The technician will assist in monitoring production workflows, maintaining quality control standards, and providing technical support for high-speed copying equipment. Additionally, the role includes training staff on printing equipment and assisting with customer service-related requests. The technician will also be involved in processing bulk mailings and operating various mailing equipment as required by the supervisor.

Responsibilities

  • Set up and print short to high volume print orders on offset presses, HP wide format, and digital copiers.
  • Meter and sort all incoming mail and packages, ensuring proper documentation and distribution.
  • Perform preventive and routine maintenance on printing equipment.
  • Control and adjust machine functions for proper ink distribution and settings.
  • Inspect plates and equipment for defects to ensure print clarity and color accuracy.
  • Assess print orders and apply mathematical calculations for job specifications.
  • Sort interdepartmental mail and manage incoming registered or certified mail.
  • Print and package finished products for secure shipping.
  • Maintain cleanliness and safety of the printing facility according to OSHA regulations.
  • Set up and operate additional printing equipment such as binding and cutting machines.
  • Monitor production workflow to meet deadlines and maintain quality control standards.
  • Provide technical support for high-speed copying equipment.
  • Transport metered mail to USPS Office daily and manage printing material logistics.
  • Train staff on printing equipment as needed and assist with customer service requests.

Requirements

  • High School diploma or GED required.
  • Minimum of two years of experience with computer-based imaging systems and printing applications.
  • Minimum of one year of experience operating small offset printing equipment and digital copiers preferred.
  • Proven experience in a mailroom and proficiency with mail processing equipment.
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail under pressure.
  • Ability to make recommendations affecting departmental operations.
  • Excellent verbal, written, and interpersonal skills required.
  • Keen knowledge of Microsoft Suite, Quark Xpress, Adobe Photoshop, and Adobe Illustrator.
