About the position

The Mail Clerk I position is responsible for providing efficient and safe mail services to various State Agencies, elected Officials, Legislatures, and Laramie County Pharmacy donations. The role involves delivering and picking up mail, processing time-sensitive documents, operating mailroom machinery, and ensuring accurate record-keeping of mail activities. The Mail Clerk I will also train other employees and act as a subject matter expert in specific mailroom functions.

Responsibilities

  • Delivers and picks up outgoing mail from state agencies on assigned routes.
  • Ensures proper inserting, collating, mailing, and processing of time-sensitive documents for State of Wyoming agencies.
  • Operates mailroom machinery and/or data center printers.
  • Loads and unloads mail and/or mainframe reports into state vehicles in an organized manner.
  • Processes all outgoing mail for pick up by Federal Post Office and UPS.
  • Coordinates mail activity with other areas by scheduling delivery times and places.
  • Ensures that work orders for state agencies are recorded and accurately accounted for.
  • Handles contaminates, biohazards, and signs for these when dealing with health labs.
  • Responsible for picking up certified, insured, registered, and express packages from the United States Post Office.
  • Accountable for postage stamp stock and postage meters using weighing scales & rate charts.
  • Monitors postal costs and provides reports for budget recommendations.
  • Presorts and processes first-class and bulk mail.
  • Collects signatures for delivered accountable mail.
  • Trains other employees on areas of expertise as needed.
  • Acts as the subject matter expert in a specific mailroom function.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED.
  • 0-1 year of progressive work experience (typically in Business).
  • Knowledge of the use of computers.
  • Knowledge of all mail classes, weights, fees, insurance, and services UPS offers.
  • Knowledge of basic math, reading, alphabetizing, sorting, and filing.
  • Knowledge of bulk mail requirements.
