About the position

The Mainframe and Java Software Engineer position at nTech Workforce is a remote role focused on developing and supporting applications in the Enrollment Services space. The engineer will work with both mainframe and Java technologies to modernize systems and reduce the organization's mainframe footprint. This role involves collaboration within an Agile/Scrum team and requires expertise in application development, particularly with COBOL and Java, as well as experience in cloud technologies and DevOps practices.

Responsibilities

• Develop and support applications in the Enrollment Services space.
• Work with Java batch jobs and legacy mainframe applications.
• Participate in modernization efforts to reduce the mainframe footprint.
• Navigate the mainframe environment effectively.
• Collaborate within an Agile/Scrum team to deliver real-time services (APIs).
• Manage jobs that share enrollment data with customers and vendors.

Requirements

• Expertise in COBOL programming language and environments such as CICS, JCL, TSO/ISPF, ChangeMan, and Topaz.
• Java development experience, including unit/integration testing using Junit/TestNg.
• Proficiency with Java and Spring technologies, including Spring Core, Spring Boot, Spring MVC, and Spring Integration.
• Experience with web services, particularly RESTful and SOA Services.
• Strong experience in continuous integration within a DevOps environment.
• Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written in English.

Nice-to-haves

• Experience working with API Management Tools.
• Experience with version control tools such as GIT/BitBucket.
• Extensive experience with Agile or Scrum methodologies.
