About the position

As a Mainframe DB2 Database Administrator at Gainwell, you will be part of a dedicated team that leverages cutting-edge technologies to enhance the health and well-being of vulnerable populations across the country. This role is pivotal in managing complex data and database management initiatives that span multiple disciplines and business groups. You will be responsible for the architecture, design, integration, and data modeling of database environments, ensuring that they meet the needs of the organization and its clients. Your responsibilities will include designing and creating databases, developing, testing, deploying, and maintaining database objects, security, and audit processes. You will execute data recovery strategies and manage database performance, capacity, and availability. Additionally, you will implement, upgrade, and patch DBMS software, diagnose and resolve performance issues, and provide expertise in database tuning, including table partitioning strategies. Collaboration with application teams to identify and optimize long-running SQL statements will also be a key part of your role. You will consult extensively with various client groups to provide strategic solutions, influencing long-term internal and enterprise-level data and database architecture and management strategies. Your role will involve advising business and technical personnel on data analysis principles, methods, and trends, as well as designing complex data transformation strategies for business intelligence or data migration. Leading complex model conversions to produce data dictionaries and mapping matrices will be essential for business function replacements. In addition to these responsibilities, you will develop and maintain comprehensive database support documentation and serve as a consultant on technological advancements. You will provide oversight, mentoring, and leadership to less experienced staff, ensuring they gain hands-on experience in assessing, architecting, and upgrading DB2 databases. Working with external consultants and services, as well as on-premises and client DBA staff, will be part of your collaborative efforts to develop customer technology solutions using various industry products and technologies. You will engage in technical problem-solving across multiple technologies, often needing to devise new methods to address challenges effectively.

Responsibilities

  • Handle and lead complex data/database management initiatives involving multiple disciplines and business groups.
  • Design database environments and create databases.
  • Develop, test, deploy, and maintain database objects, security, and audit processes.
  • Execute data recovery strategies.
  • Manage database performance, capacity, and availability.
  • Implement, upgrade, and patch DBMS software.

Requirements

  • DB2 for z/OS v12, Connect, HADR, Automatic Storage experience required.
  • Experience working with JCL, COBOL, CICS, VSAM, VLDB databases including partitioning required.
  • DB2 Data Replication experience is a plus.
  • DB2 Certification is a plus.
  • Experience in the preparation, maintenance, and execution of disaster recovery plans.
