About the position

As a Mainframe Hardware Configuration Engineer at Fiserv, you will play a crucial role in configuring and maintaining the mainframe hardware that supports our global operations. This position involves working with various hardware components including mainframes, disk systems, virtual tape, and SAN switches across our data centers in the US and globally. Your primary responsibility will be to ensure that all hardware is configured correctly to meet the needs of our infrastructure, which is vital for the seamless operation of our financial technology services. In this role, you will be tasked with diagnosing and resolving hardware issues to maintain optimal performance and reliability. You will monitor system performance and make necessary adjustments to improve efficiency and effectiveness. Collaboration is key, as you will work closely with software engineers, system administrators, and other IT professionals to ensure that hardware and software systems integrate seamlessly. Documentation is another critical aspect of this position. You will maintain detailed records of hardware configurations, changes, and maintenance activities, including connectivity diagrams. Utilizing the IOCP mainframe, you will define and manage input and output configurations. Additionally, you will participate in datacenter relocations, client migrations, and disaster recovery exercises, ensuring that our systems are robust and resilient against potential disruptions.

Responsibilities

  • Design and configure mainframe hardware systems to meet global infrastructure needs
  • Diagnose and resolve hardware issues to ensure optimal performance and reliability
  • Monitor system performance and adjust to improve efficiency and effectiveness
  • Work closely with software engineers, system administrators, and other IT professionals for seamless integration of hardware and software systems

Requirements

  • 6+ years of experience in mainframe hardware and software engineering
  • 5+ years of experience in mainframe hardware components, system architecture, and troubleshooting techniques
  • Bachelor's degree in a relevant field or an equivalent combination of education, work, and military service

Nice-to-haves

  • Understanding of standard networking protocols and components such as HTTP, DNS, TCP/IP, ICMP, subnetting, and load balancing strategies
  • Certifications (e.g., IBM Certified Specialist) may be advantageous
