About the position

The Mainframe Lead / Architect with IMS is responsible for leading modernization efforts in mainframe technologies, focusing on legacy migration and cloud transitions. This role requires extensive experience in mainframe systems and a strong understanding of automation tools, as well as the ability to collaborate effectively across teams to ensure successful project delivery.

Responsibilities

• Lead modernization efforts for mainframe systems and legacy migration projects.
• Understand and gather requirements for mainframe modernization.
• Utilize Java FSD, Python, and mainframe technologies (COBOL, JCL, DB2, IMS, MQ) in project execution.
• Participate in the Legacy Migration Center of Excellence (LMCOE) initiatives.
• Develop problem statements using automation tools and Python.
• Manage migration projects including On-Prem to On-Prem, Cloud Migration to Azure, and Microfocus migrations.
• Build team compositions for migration projects and oversee programming tasks.
• Triaging production issues using mainframe tools and technologies.
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams and communicate effectively in both verbal and written forms.
• Document business requirements and participate in Agile development processes.

Requirements

• 12+ years of experience in mainframe and Java modernization.
• Proficient in mainframe technologies: COBOL, CICS, JCL, IMS, DB2.
• Experience with automation tools and Python for problem-solving.
• Knowledge of cloud migration strategies, particularly to Azure.
• Strong understanding of the Product Development Life Cycle and Agile methodologies.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

Nice-to-haves

• Experience with distributed solutions and Java.
• Familiarity with Microfocus migration tools.
