About the position

The Mainframe Master Scheduling Coordinator is responsible for overseeing batch production scheduling environments and ensuring the smooth operation of computer systems in support of government clients. This role involves monitoring job streams, processing job requests, and providing technical support to users, all while maintaining high standards of performance and documentation. The position requires working overnight shifts and the ability to obtain a Public Trust clearance.

Responsibilities

  • Monitor batch production scheduling environments via multi-distributed platforms.
  • Process batch production job requests via multi-distributed platforms.
  • Make periodic test runs; implement operational procedures; edit and prepare JCL and process jobs for one or more computer systems.
  • Establish job streams for special request production jobs based on user requirements.
  • Review production performance data and monitor job stream performance.
  • Direct workload assignments to the specified computer system and appropriate staff and assure that workloads are completed.
  • Monitor and operate computer hardware and peripheral equipment; process and maintain software release system production requests.
  • Monitor batch backup and disaster recovery processes.
  • Maintain electronic production requests and forward requests to the appropriate branch staff; maintain a log for requests.
  • Assist in analyzing trouble situations; provide technical support to user; perform restart and recovery routines, as necessary.
  • Investigate and take corrective action for operational problems.
  • Establish, update, and close a problem management record in the trouble ticket reporting system to document problems encountered and communicate via email to the task manager and shift leader when any production issues occur.
  • Monitor data exchanges via data exchange software application packages for failed or hung files.
  • Review batch job documentation for outdated information routinely and notify relevant points of contact to update accordingly.
  • Prepare a daily status report for the assigned workload, documenting any significant occurrences on systems or production batch operations.
  • Identify recurring problem trends and notify internal teams and external developers as required.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma and/or related advanced training and certifications such as A+ Certification.
  • At least 4 years of experience in providing related IT support.
  • Experience with PCs running on the most current Windows platform.
  • Computer operations experience in a mainframe operating systems software environment utilizing IBM Time Sharing Option (TSO) and IBM Interactive System Productivity Suite (ISPF).
  • Experience with z/OS 1.4 (or higher), MVS/ESA-OS/390, JES3 V4, ISPF, CICS, OPS/MVS II, JCL, DB2, TCP/IP.
  • Experience with scheduling software including Control-M and Control-M Enterprise Manager; data exchange products including Managed File Transfer, Cyber Fusion, and Connect: Direct.
