About the position

The Mainframe Software Developer will be responsible for developing JCL and software code in accordance with customer-defined standards and software engineering best practices. This role requires a deep understanding of mainframe technologies and the ability to analyze and resolve issues related to batch job failures. The developer will be expected to take appropriate corrective actions in a timely manner and share findings with the team to enhance overall project efficiency. Additionally, the position involves evaluating the impacts of database schema changes on existing software components, ensuring that all modifications are well-documented and communicated effectively to management, customers, and vendors. The developer will prepare or update documentation as necessary, actively participate in peer reviews of project artifacts, and engage in independent or collaborative research to solve complex problems. Strong communication skills are essential, as the developer will need to convey technical information at an appropriate level for various audiences. This position is critical in maintaining the integrity and performance of mainframe applications, and the developer will play a key role in ensuring that all software components function seamlessly within the larger system architecture.

Responsibilities

  • Develop JCL and software code using customer defined standards and software engineering best practices
  • Analyze root causes for batch job failures and take corrective steps to resolve issues
  • Evaluate impacts of database schema changes on existing software components
  • Brief management, customers, team, or vendors using appropriate technical communication skills
  • Prepare or update documentation as needed
  • Actively participate in peer reviews of project artifacts
  • Independently and/or collaboratively research problems and provide solutions

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, Mathematics, Engineering or a related field, or equivalent relevant experience
  • 7+ years of experience with COBOL, JCL, REXX, analysis, design, and development
  • Solid experience with Z/OS Mainframe Development
  • Experienced Developer in COBOL, JCL, REXX, and similar utilities/languages
  • Strong knowledge of relational databases, dB2 and non-relational mainframe storage technology
  • Solid exposure with automated unit testing, TDD, BDD, and associated technologies
  • Strong debugging and troubleshooting skills
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Excellent customer relations skills

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience with File Aid/RDX
  • Experience with modern development software, tools, and methodologies, including Java and Python
