About the position

As a Mainframe System Administrator apprentice at IBM, you will play a crucial role in supporting the systems that drive our company and our clients. This apprenticeship program, lasting approximately 12 months, is designed to provide you with hands-on experience and foundational knowledge in systems administration, focusing on mainframe computing. You will work alongside experienced professionals to ensure the reliable operation of client environments, while also learning essential skills such as system security, change management, and coding.

Responsibilities

• Install, configure, and maintain client environments on mainframe systems.
• Collaborate with other System Administrators, Systems Programmers, and application teams to perform daily activities.
• Work with Independent Software Vendors (ISVs) to customize application solutions.
• Implement monitoring, configuration management, and reporting for systems.
• Execute change management processes and implement system security measures.
• Code JCL and write simple REXX programs.

• Ability to work independently and collaboratively in an agile team environment.
• Basic knowledge or experience in mainframe hardware and systems functions.
• Experience in installing, troubleshooting, operating, testing, planning, or configuring relevant technologies.

Nice-to-haves

• Experience reading and interpreting mainframe system/application program dumps and traces.
• Proficiency in using applications running on Windows and Linux workstations.
