About the position

The Mainframe WebSphere Engineer position at TEKsystems involves providing technical solutions to complex problems related to WebSphere and mainframe environments. The role requires extensive experience in administration, configuration, and troubleshooting of WebSphere Application Servers, particularly in z/OS environments. The engineer will work closely with security and system teams to ensure secure operations and will be responsible for optimizing application performance and managing various server technologies.

Responsibilities

  • Provide technical solutions to complex problems in WebSphere and mainframe environments.
  • Administer and manage WebSphere and Apache servers on z/OS.
  • Install and configure WebSphere Application Server and HTTP servers.
  • Tune WebSphere Application Server for Java Batch workloads.
  • Apply fix packs to WebSphere Application Server.
  • Perform changes on WebSphere MQ and manage MQ OC panels.
  • Configure IBM ODM Rule Execution Server on WebSphere Application Server for z/OS.
  • Troubleshoot WebSphere application server issues and open Service Requests with IBM.
  • Define WLM Service and Transaction classes for WebSphere z/OS.
  • Develop UNIX shell scripts for batch processing and automation.
  • Monitor server and log performance using tools like IBM QRADAR and Splunk.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree with a minimum of 9 years of experience or 14 years of technical experience in lieu of a degree.
  • Experience with object-oriented applications and multiple technologies including relational databases, WebSphere, Apache, and IIS.
  • Strong experience in WebSphere administration and environment management.
  • Hands-on experience with WebSphere Application Server on z/OS and IBM MQ.
  • Familiarity with security protocols and working with operations and application development teams.
  • Proficient in scripting for automated deployment and software installation.
  • Strong understanding of networking concepts including firewalls and routers.

Nice-to-haves

  • Familiarity with Java and JavaScript programming.
  • Knowledge of XML and SOAP protocols.
  • Experience with DB2 databases.
  • Experience with various server and log monitoring tools.
