About the position
The Mainframe z/OS Systems Programmer will be responsible for the ongoing maintenance and administration of the mainframe z/OS operating system, including storage systems and systems software products. This role involves installing, patching, upgrading, and providing support for various systems, including DB2 and UNIX Systems Services. The candidate will also be required to provide production off-hour coverage and support periodic weekend implementations.
Responsibilities
- Ongoing maintenance of the mainframe z/OS operating system.
- Administration of accompanying storage systems and systems software products.
- Maintenance and upgrades of DB2.
- Upgrades of mainframe and related storage.
- Provide production off-hour coverage as necessary.
- Support periodic weekend implementations.
Requirements
- 10+ years of experience working with z/OS, JES2, SMP/E, TSO, IOCP/HCD.
- Experience with VTAM and TCP/IP.
- Basic IBM utilities knowledge (IDCAMS, IEFBR14, etc.).
- Working knowledge of the IBM virtual tape system and Unix System Services.
- Experience with CICS, IMS, DB2, and AFP printing is a plus.
- Experience using monitoring tools such as OMEGAMON.
- Experience in large-scale enterprise-wide implementations.
- Excellent oral and written communication skills.
- Strong interpersonal and organizational skills.
- Experience with mainframe CPU installs as a systems programmer consultant.
Nice-to-haves
- Working knowledge of CICS, IMS, DB2, and AFP printing.
