About the position

The Maintenance Technician I position is essential for assisting in the repair and preventative maintenance of equipment within the facility. This role is critical to ensuring that all equipment operates correctly and efficiently, adhering to production requirements. The technician will be responsible for repairing, replacing, and correcting equipment as necessary, and will consult with engineers and vendors to facilitate these repairs. The position requires a proactive approach to troubleshooting equipment issues and ensuring compliance with safety regulations set forth by Simmons and various government agencies. This includes adherence to policies regarding safety, environmental standards, and the handling of food products. As part of a team, the Maintenance Technician I will participate in the ongoing development and implementation of team concepts and policies. This includes attending team meetings and fostering strong cohesiveness among team members regarding major issues such as direction, annual planning, budgeting, and policy changes. The technician is expected to identify areas lacking cohesiveness and work collaboratively with the team leader to resolve these issues, promoting synergy within the organization. The role also involves maintaining familiarity with Simmons' established operating systems, including quality, security, and company policies. The technician must understand their responsibilities within these systems and communicate any concerns or improvement ideas effectively. The position is designed to guide the activities of the technician while allowing for creativity and initiative in fulfilling the job's requirements. Physical demands of the job include the ability to manually lift or move objects weighing between 75-150 pounds, working in extreme temperatures, and standing for the entire shift. The technician will also work in cramped, enclosed, elevated, wet, and dirty areas with noise levels exceeding 90 decibels. Personal protective equipment (PPE) such as appropriate footwear and hearing protection will be required as needed.

Responsibilities

  • Assist in equipment repair and preventative maintenance procedures.
  • Repair, replace, correct, or affect equipment to ensure proper operation according to production requirements.
  • Consult with engineers and vendors as needed for equipment issues.
  • Accomplish layout work for each project as needed.
  • Troubleshoot equipment effectively.
  • Meet safety requirements and comply with all policies and regulations regarding safety and environmental standards.
  • Participate as a member of the team in ongoing development and implementation of team concepts and policies.
  • Coordinate work to ensure best practices with all team members.
  • Attend appropriate team meetings and foster strong cohesiveness regarding major issues.
  • Identify areas lacking cohesiveness and work with the team leader to resolve issues.
  • Maintain familiarity with Simmons' established operating systems and communicate concerns or improvement ideas.

Requirements

  • Experience or vocational training in welding, electrical or mechanical repair, and refrigeration or hydraulics.
  • Good command of the English language, both written and spoken.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience in poultry or food processing organizations.
