Responsibilities

  • Inspects fire extinguishers for type, asset number, size, location, and potential hazards annually or as required by university regulations.
  • Updates inspection records in AppTree using a mobile device.
  • Communicates with campus customers and responds to complaints.
  • Maintains fire extinguisher parts inventory and disposes of devices while evaluating new products.
  • Schedules buildings for inspections and reports any observed building safety issues.
  • Handles correspondence through email, training, meetings, and professional development.

Requirements

  • Graduation from High School or equivalent education.
  • Two years' experience in the maintenance and repair of fire extinguishers and related fire safety equipment or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Expert knowledge of MIOSHA part 8; NFPA #10, #45 and #30; AGA and DOT regulations related to pressurized cylinders.
  • Completion of radiation safety level 2 training prior to completion of applicable probation or trial period.
  • Valid Michigan vehicle operator's license.
  • Working knowledge and ability to utilize spreadsheet and e-mail software.

Nice-to-haves

  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Outlook and Teams.
  • Knowledge of facilities operations.
  • Working knowledge of AppTree and Ability software, or equivalent software platforms.
  • Good customer relations/service skills.
  • Ability to work independently and as an effective member of a team.
  • Solid organizational skills with attention to detail.
  • Creative and innovative lifelong learner with effective communication skills with a diverse population.
  • Ability to problem solve within a collaborative team environment.
