The Maintainer I position at UMass Amherst involves performing general janitorial duties to ensure the cleanliness and maintenance of campus facilities. The position requires flexibility in working hours, including nights and weekends, and involves various cleaning and maintenance tasks across the campus.

Responsibilities

• Removes trash and waste from premises and places it in appropriate areas outside the building.
• Cleans bathrooms, including toilets, sinks, and mirrors, ensuring sanitary conditions.
• Cleans building interiors by dusting, washing, and polishing various surfaces.
• Maintains carpet areas through vacuuming and spot cleaning.
• Maintains hard floor surfaces by sweeping, mopping, stripping, and waxing.
• Keeps exterior areas adjacent to buildings clean by sweeping and shoveling snow.
• Replaces light bulbs and cleans light fixtures to maintain a well-lighted environment.
• Moves and arranges furniture for events and functions as required.
• Cleans offices, classrooms, laboratories, and other spaces using appropriate materials and equipment.
• Maintains an orderly custodial closet and follows instructions on the use of materials and equipment.
• Locks and unlocks premises to maintain security and ease of entry.
• Performs simple general maintenance on equipment as needed.

Requirements

• Ability to follow oral and written instructions in English.
• Ability to physically perform manual tasks, including climbing stairs and lifting.
• Must be able to work nights, weekends, holidays, and rotating shifts.
