About the position

The Maintenance Helper at Brooks-TLC Hospital System, Inc. is responsible for performing a variety of maintenance tasks to ensure the proper functioning of hospital facilities. This role includes operating, maintaining, and repairing various equipment, conducting preventative maintenance, and responding to security needs. The Maintenance Helper plays a crucial role in supporting the hospital's mission by maintaining high-quality service and ensuring a safe environment for patients and staff.

Responsibilities

  • Consult with and keep supervisor informed of activities, needs, and concerns.
  • Carry out routine and specific assignments.
  • Pull work orders from the computer system, complete requests, and enter completed work orders into the system.
  • Perform mechanical and security rounds as assigned.
  • Operate, maintain, and repair boilers, pumps, compressors, air handlers, OR equipment, water softening equipment, and HVAC controls.
  • Repair and overhaul dietary equipment, beds, carts, and other wheeled equipment.
  • Install and test new equipment.
  • Assemble, move, and install furniture and equipment.
  • Install and repair floor and wall coverings, including tiles.
  • Perform painting as required.
  • Assist other personnel in handling materials on major repair or installation projects.
  • Perform electrical safety checks of facility equipment and electrical appliances.
  • Document all electrical tests and update records.
  • Work at either primary campus or satellite clinics as assigned.
  • Respond to security needs of the staff and facility.
  • Maintain all required records and reports.
  • Care for and maintain department supplies, equipment, and work areas.
  • Requisition supply and equipment needs.
  • Perform preventative maintenance duties, including generator and emergency lighting testing.
  • Perform snow removal and grounds work as assigned.
  • Follow established department and organization policies, procedures, and safety protocols.
  • Promote cooperative staff effort to provide high-quality service to patients and staff.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED required.
  • Valid and unrestricted New York State Driver License required.
  • Experience in basic electrical, mechanical, plumbing, and carpentry required.
  • Graduate of a trade school strongly preferred.
  • Advanced skills in the building trades or construction preferred.

Benefits

  • Full-time position with scheduled work hours during the day.
  • Salary range of $19.47-$23.29 per hour, determined by experience and qualifications.
