About the position

The Maintenance Support Specialist position at Los Alamos National Laboratory (LANL) is a critical role that supports the Maintenance Site Services for the Plutonium Facility Management. This position is essential for implementing the LANL project controls system, processes, procedures, and tools within various programs associated with the Weapons Production Directorate. The selected candidate will be responsible for ensuring the effective management of the nation's only fully capable plutonium facility, which plays a vital role in the stockpile stewardship program, weapon engineering and testing, and the production of weapons components. This position is pivotal in maintaining the safety, security, and effectiveness of the U.S. nuclear deterrent. The Maintenance Support Specialist will engage in a variety of tasks that include scheduling support, planning and scheduling activities, cost engineering, and providing excellent customer service. The role requires a strong understanding of project management principles, as well as the ability to analyze and control costs effectively. The candidate will also be responsible for running Earned Value Management estimates and supporting change control by maintaining metrics and indicators, along with reporting variance analysis. For those hired at the Maintenance Support Specialist 2 level, additional responsibilities will include facilitating work in an operations and maintenance environment, performing scheduling using software such as Primavera P6, and preparing presentations and reports for both internal and external customers.

Responsibilities

  • Provide scheduling support.
  • Perform planning and scheduling activities, including schedule development, maintenance, and monitoring.
  • Conduct cost engineering activities, including cost estimating, analysis, and control.
  • Run Earned Value Management estimates.
  • Support change control by maintaining metrics and indicators and reporting variance analysis.
  • Provide excellent customer service support.
  • Facilitate work in an operations and maintenance environment (for MSS 2 level).
  • Perform scheduling using software such as Primavera P6 (for MSS 2 level).
  • Prepare presentations and reports for customers both internal and external (for MSS 2 level).

Requirements

  • Experience in scheduling support and project management principles.
  • Knowledge of cost engineering, including cost estimating and analysis.
  • Familiarity with Earned Value Management techniques.
  • Strong analytical skills for variance analysis and reporting.
  • Excellent customer service skills.
