The Maintenance Assistant at Hutchings Psychiatric Center is responsible for performing a variety of semi-skilled maintenance and repair tasks on structures and equipment. This role requires the use of hand and shop tools to carry out routine, repetitive maintenance, installation, and repair tasks across various trades, including mechanical, building construction, motor equipment, and electrical work. The Maintenance Assistant will work under the supervision of skilled trade workers and may also perform journey-level activities after receiving detailed instructions to enhance their skills. Key duties include the routine replacement and repair of plumbing and steamfitting equipment, installation of new equipment, and performing semiskilled carpentry activities. The Maintenance Assistant will be involved in repairing doors, windows, and furniture, as well as assisting in erecting and renovating buildings and structures. Additionally, the role encompasses masonry repairs, painting and decorating tasks, and basic electrical work, such as repairing electrical equipment and maintaining lighting fixtures. This position requires flexibility in working hours, as evenings, holidays, and weekends may be necessary. The Maintenance Assistant will be expected to work a 40-hour week, primarily from 10 AM to 6:30 PM, with specific days off on Sunday and Monday. The role is permanent and full-time, offering a stable work environment within the Office of Mental Health.
