About the position

The Maintenance Assistant is responsible for maintaining the grounds, facility, and equipment in a safe and efficient manner, ensuring compliance with applicable standards and regulations. This role involves performing routine maintenance tasks, coordinating with nursing services, and adhering to safety and sanitation protocols to provide a clean and orderly environment for residents and staff.

Responsibilities

• Ensure that maintenance schedules are followed as outlined for respective shift or area.
• Report all accidents and incidents to your supervisor, regardless of severity.
• Coordinate daily maintenance services with nursing services in resident living areas.
• Participate in department meetings and assist in projects as directed.
• Attend in-service educational classes and training programs as scheduled.
• Follow established fire safety policies and procedures.
• Maintain the facility in good repair, ensuring a safe and clean environment.
• Perform routine maintenance on grounds and facility equipment, including plumbing and electrical work.
• Clean windows and replace burned-out light bulbs as needed.
• Service heating and cooling units according to manufacturer specifications.

Requirements

• High school diploma or GED required.
• Six months prior maintenance experience required.
• Ability to make independent decisions and follow instructions.
• Ability to deal tactfully with personnel, residents, and the public.
• Ability to minimize waste of supplies and misuse of equipment.
• Ability to follow written and oral instructions.

Nice-to-haves

• Experience in a healthcare or rehabilitation setting.
• Knowledge of safety and sanitation procedures.
