About the position

The Meadows School is seeking a dedicated Maintenance Craftsperson to join our team. This full-time position involves performing a variety of general maintenance tasks to ensure the efficient and effective functioning of our facilities. The Maintenance Craftsperson will be responsible for basic repairs, grounds care, and assisting in various trades such as carpentry, HVAC, plumbing, and more. The role is crucial in maintaining a safe and operational environment for students, staff, and the public. The ideal candidate will possess a positive attitude, strong work ethic, and excellent communication skills, along with a commitment to the mission of The Meadows School. In this role, the Maintenance Craftsperson will respond to administrative work requests, completing work orders and projects in a timely and productive manner. Responsibilities include inspecting facilities and systems to identify necessary repairs, maintaining tools and equipment, and safely operating basic equipment. The Maintenance Craftsperson will also perform minor repairs in carpentry, plumbing, painting, or electrical work, and provide support for school events by setting up and breaking down facilities as needed. Additionally, the role involves responding to emergency situations to resolve immediate safety concerns and facilitating office moves on campus. Physical requirements for this position include the ability to lift and carry up to 50 pounds, push or pull greater than 50 pounds, climb ladders, and perform moderate bending, squatting, twisting, kneeling, and reaching. Exposure to various environmental factors such as chemicals, noise, dust, and slippery surfaces is expected. The Maintenance Craftsperson will also be required to perform other duties as assigned, contributing to the overall maintenance and safety of the school environment.

Responsibilities

  • Responds to administrative work requests for completing work orders in a timely, efficient, and productive manner.
  • Inspects facilities, systems, and their components for the purpose of identifying necessary repairs.
  • Maintains tools and/or equipment in good working order.
  • Safely operates basic equipment using defined methods.
  • Performs minor repairs as assigned in carpentry, plumbing, painting, or electrical.
  • Provides support and facilities setup/breakdown for school events on campus.
  • Responds to emergency facility or custodial situations for the purpose of resolving immediate safety concerns.
  • Transports various items (e.g. tools, equipment, supplies) for the purpose of ensuring the availability of materials required at the job site.
  • Facilitates office moves on campus (e.g. furniture such as desks, bookshelves, filing cabinets).
  • Performs routine maintenance on building systems.

Requirements

  • High School diploma or equivalent.
  • Experience with general building maintenance regarding carpentry, plumbing, painting, and electrical work.
  • Experience with basic business technology, such as Microsoft and Google applications.
  • Knowledge of occupational hazards and standard safety practices.
  • Ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions.
  • Ability to organize, prioritize, and follow-through on assignments.
  • Ability to estimate time, materials, and equipment required for jobs assigned.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to work with a variety of people in a professional, collegial, and courteous manner.
  • Must pass a criminal background investigation.
  • Availability for occasional evening, weekend, or early-morning work.
