About the position

The Maintenance Engineer at Hewing Hotel plays a crucial role in ensuring the smooth operation of the hotel's facilities. Reporting directly to the Director of Facilities, this position requires a hands-on approach to the maintenance and repair of various hotel equipment and systems. The ideal candidate will possess a diverse knowledge base in electrical, plumbing, steam, gas, fire and safety, HVAC, and refrigeration. This role is not just about overseeing maintenance tasks; it involves actively engaging in the day-to-day operations, fostering relationships with fellow associates, and embodying the hotel's principles of People, Place, and Character. The Maintenance Engineer will be expected to uphold the hotel's commitment to translocal hospitality and intuitive service, ensuring that all guests have a positive experience during their stay. In addition to technical skills, the Maintenance Engineer will be responsible for maintaining a harmonious working environment by promoting teamwork among associates. Responsibilities include maintaining all equipment, systems, and building components, such as mechanical and electrical systems, pumps, HVAC, refrigeration, plumbing, locks, furniture, paint, wall coverings, and tile. The engineer will handle routine maintenance and repairs in guest rooms, public spaces, event spaces, and back-of-house areas. Familiarity with the hotel's safety systems is essential, as the engineer must take corrective action on any maintenance or operational issues that could affect the hotel's security or operational condition. The role also involves participating in the room preventative maintenance program, using skills and intuition to detect equipment malfunctions, and communicating effectively with supervisors and other maintenance team members. The Maintenance Engineer will be responsible for repairing and maintaining the physical structure of the hotel and its furnishings, transporting heavy boxes and equipment, assisting in the delivery and setup of new equipment, and responding to guest requests in a timely and personable manner. Responsibilities

  • Uphold and model the company's principles of People, Place and Character to ensure the experiences of translocal hospitality, intuitive service and collaboration
  • Maintain a good working relationship with other associates by promoting teamwork and fostering a harmonious working environment
  • Maintain all equipment, systems and building components including mechanical and electrical systems, pumps, HVAC, refrigeration, plumbing, locks, furniture, paint, wall coverings, tile and other equipment
  • Handle routine maintenance and repairs in guest rooms, public spaces, event space, outlets, back of house spaces and grounds
  • Demonstrate familiarity with the hotel's safety systems and take corrective action on any maintenance or operating problems which affect the security or operating condition of the hotel
  • Participate in the room preventative maintenance program
  • Use skills and intuition to detect equipment malfunction and discuss machine operation variations with supervisors or other maintenance team members to diagnose the problem or repair
  • Repair and maintain the physical structure of the establishment and furnishings as needed
  • Transport heavy boxes and equipment within the hotel for maintenance and repairs
  • Assist in delivery and setup of all new equipment such as televisions, mattresses, tables, chairs, etc.
  • Communicate with the Director of Facilities on projects as assigned
  • Respond to all guest requests in a timely and personable manner

Requirements

  • Minimum of (2) two years of experience in building maintenance; previous experience as a hotel engineer preferred or comparable experience at an establishment such as apartment complex or office building
  • Basic knowledge of refrigeration systems, electricity, HVAC and plumbing, certifications are a plus
  • Certified Pool Operator (CPO) certification or the willingness to obtain it
  • Proficiency in the English language in reading, writing and verbal communication
  • Ability to sit, bend, climb stairs, stand and walk for extended periods
  • Ability to lift up to 50 lbs.
  • Ability to work autonomously
  • Ability to regularly work a full-time set schedule of approximately 40 hours/week
  • Ability to work in a dog friendly work environment
