About the position
The Maintenance Engineer is responsible for the operation and maintenance of heating, cooling, and life safety equipment within the facility. This role ensures a safe and comfortable environment for patients, staff, and visitors by adhering to hospital and departmental guidelines while performing maintenance tasks.
Responsibilities
- Repair and maintain equipment and systems within assigned locations in a safe, efficient manner.
- Repair and maintain various pieces of mechanical and electrical equipment including plumbing, controls, HVAC refrigeration, and electrical/emergency power.
- Operate and maintain steam and hot water heating boilers, ensuring adequate chemical control and seasonal maintenance.
- Repair and maintain patient care equipment to ensure safety and compliance with regulatory standards.
- Repair, maintain, adjust, and calibrate miscellaneous portable equipment such as wheelchairs and carts.
- Read and interpret blueprints, schematics, and technical manuals to troubleshoot and isolate problems.
- Gain a thorough working knowledge of major systems within assigned locations to operate them safely and efficiently.
- Perform periodic preventive maintenance on various systems including HVAC, fire suppression, and medical gases.
- Complete and submit required documentation such as service requests and work logs.
- Perform all duties in a safe, efficient manner.
- Adjust care or service approaches to reflect the developmental level and cultural differences of the population served.
- Rotate call for facility emergencies and respond to site emergencies as needed.
Requirements
- 5 years' experience in operation and maintenance in a commercial, industrial, or institutional environment.
- Computer competence.
Nice-to-haves
- Graduate of an accredited trade school in refrigeration, electricity, building maintenance, or another appropriate course.
