About the position

The Maintenance Engineer is responsible for the independent performance of skilled tasks related to the troubleshooting, operation, replacement, repair, and maintenance of various mechanical and electrical systems within a commercial setting. This role emphasizes preventive maintenance and efficient operations of HVAC systems, refrigeration, and plumbing equipment, ensuring a safe and functional environment.

Responsibilities

  • Perform operation, replacement, repair, and maintenance of mechanical air conditioning and heating systems, air handling units, pumps, heat exchangers, medical refrigeration units, hot/cold water lines, expansion joints, plumbing, and electric motors.
  • Rebuild pumps, install mechanical seals, and perform pump alignment using proper tools as necessary.
  • Troubleshoot and make necessary repairs to refrigeration systems.
  • Troubleshoot and repair electric, electronic, and pneumatic control systems.
  • Conduct routine preventive maintenance duties including filter changes, lubrication, and performance checks using facility BAS and work order system.
  • Evacuate refrigeration systems, perform refrigeration leak tests, recover refrigerant, and replace refrigerant compressors following regulatory requirements.
  • Perform maintenance and minor repairs on various chiller systems and refrigeration systems, including rooftop package units and split systems.
  • Maintain a safe and accident-free workplace, exercising common sense and good judgment.
  • Respond to emergency situations such as flooding and snow removal.
  • Attend safety meetings and participate in the emergency response team.
  • Comply with and enforce policy and procedures manual and safety guidelines.
  • Perform snow removal of exterior grounds and sidewalks when necessary.

Requirements

  • High School graduate or equivalent.
  • Minimum of five years of experience in the operation, maintenance, and repair of HVAC, mechanical, electrical, and electronic systems.
  • Must be able to obtain a MD Grade 3 (or higher) Stationary Engineer License.
  • Possess an OSHA 10 Certification.
  • CFC Certification.
  • Ability to interact effectively and supportively with people with disabilities.
  • Familiarity with the operation of building automation systems.
  • Ability to read blueprints, pneumatic mechanical, and/or electric control drawings.
  • Must be willing to work overtime and take on-call assignments.
  • Ability to read, comprehend, and execute written and oral instructions and perform basic arithmetic calculations.
  • Ability to lift 50 pounds.
  • Must be physically able to climb ladders.
  • Exercises good judgment and uses discretion.
  • Ability to keep processes moving forward and take initiative as appropriate.
  • Must be reliable, dependable with excellent attendance, flexible, and versatile.
  • Must possess positive interpersonal skills and communicate well with customers, employees, visitors, and vendors.
  • Ability to work well under pressure.
