About the position

The Maintenance Helper - Railroad position at Freeport-McMoRan involves assisting with the maintenance and repair of heavy equipment used in railroad operations. Responsibilities

• Safely assist with maintenance and repair of heavy equipment such as Haul Trucks, Water Trucks, Rubber Tire and Track Dozers, Front-end Loaders, and Motor Graders.
• Assist Journeyman Mechanics with maintenance activities on transmissions, engines, brakes, differentials, pumps, motors, torque converters, final drives and other heavy equipment systems.
• Perform preventative maintenance activities on heavy equipment.
• Complete Work Orders and other maintenance documentation.
• Troubleshoot equipment problems.
• Perform housekeeping duties and work area checks.
• May operate equipment such as forklifts, cranes, and small mobile equipment.
• Perform other duties as required.

Requirements

• Ability to understand and apply verbal and written work and safety-related instructions and procedures given in English.
• Ability to communicate in English with respect to job assignments, job procedures, and applicable safety standards.
• Must have completed academic and practical competencies required and have experience demonstrating the required aptitude.

Nice-to-haves

• Basic railroad operations knowledge
• General understanding of railroad track maintenance.
• Ability to operate a backhoe or other railroad related equipment.
