About the position
The Maintenance Worker - Railroad position at Freeport-McMoRan involves assisting with the maintenance and repair of heavy equipment used in railroad operations. The position is based at the Miami smelter and rod plant, which plays a crucial role in processing copper concentrate and supporting North American leaching operations.
Responsibilities
- Safely assist with maintenance and repair of heavy equipment such as Haul Trucks, Water Trucks, Rubber Tire and Track Dozers, Front-end Loaders, and Motor Graders.
- Assist Journeyman Mechanics with maintenance activities on transmissions, engines, brakes, differentials, pumps, motors, torque converters, final drives and other heavy equipment systems.
- Perform preventative maintenance activities on heavy equipment.
- Complete Work Orders and other maintenance documentation.
- Troubleshoot equipment problems.
- Perform housekeeping duties and work area checks.
- May operate equipment such as forklifts, cranes, and small mobile equipment.
- Perform other duties as required.
Requirements
- Ability to understand and communicate verbal and written work and safety-related instructions and procedures in English.
- Completion of academic and practical competencies required, including Line of Progression requirements for internal employees where applicable.
- Experience demonstrating the required aptitude and passing a written assessment based on skills/abilities and/or academic knowledge, as well as safety.
Nice-to-haves
- Basic railroad operations knowledge
- General understanding of railroad track maintenance.
- Ability to operate a backhoe or other railroad-related equipment.
