About the position

The Maintenance Helper position at Phoenix Job Corps Center involves providing safe and efficient transportation for students while ensuring the maintenance and repair of the center's facilities and grounds. The role includes supervising Work-Based Learning students, performing inspections, and maintaining vehicle documentation, all aimed at enhancing the educational experience of young individuals seeking career development.

Responsibilities

  • Perform maintenance and inspections of Center facilities and systems to ensure functionality and prevent disruption of student and staff services.
  • Complete, track, and document work status and notify supervisor of issues and concerns.
  • Supervise Work-Based Learning students to enhance their employability skills and provide industry-relevant training.
  • Provide timely and efficient transportation services for students as required.
  • Maintain appropriate vehicle documentation per DOL/Company requirements.
  • Assist in other departments as required.
  • Schedule and deliver vehicles for preventive maintenance and repairs as necessary.
  • Conduct vehicle inspections and report safety issues and concerns to supervisor.
  • Produce quality work/assignments in a thorough, timely, and accurate manner.
  • Maintain appropriate personal attendance, accountability, and work productivity standards.
  • Plan, prioritize, and organize assignments to meet established goals and deadlines.
  • Understand and apply job knowledge to effectively complete all required job responsibilities.
  • Proactively maintain the skills required to perform job duties.
  • Mentor, monitor, and model the Career Success Standards as required by the PRH.
  • Show respect and courtesy to students and hold them accountable for their actions and behavior.
  • Provide quality services for students and ensure that quality is maintained and student needs are met.
  • Pursue improvement and enhancement of requisite services.
  • Exchange ideas and information, both orally and in writing, in a clear and concise manner.
  • Identify problems, analyze causes, and evaluate appropriate solutions prior to taking or recommending actions.
  • Work in partnership with staff from all Departments to ensure effective supervision and services are provided to students.
  • Accept direction and supervision from the Center Director/Center Duty Officer/Shift Manager.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or equivalent required.
  • Must possess and maintain a valid in-State Driver's License and meet Company insurability requirements.
  • Prefer previous experience working with youth.
  • Demonstrates the ability to lift 40 pounds and/or the ability to assess the lift load in order to ask for necessary assistance.

Nice-to-haves

  • Advanced degrees preferred.
