About the position

The Maintenance Specialist I is responsible for the renovation and maintenance of athletic fields and the Woodland Park hockey rink, as well as assisting the maintenance department with various tasks. This role is crucial in ensuring that all facilities are safe, clean, and well-maintained, contributing to the overall mission of the Boys & Girls Clubs of Southcentral Alaska to support youth development and community engagement.

Responsibilities

  • Construct and repair soccer goals/nets
  • Maintain fields including seeding, fertilization, liming, and irrigation based on weather conditions and playing schedule
  • Line playing fields per soccer and football regulations according to schedule
  • Maintain all field equipment including mowers, painters, and vehicles
  • Maintain, plow, hot mop, and repair the Ice Rink
  • Ensure walking surfaces are free of snow and ice and safe
  • Salt and sand as needed
  • Move snow piles to maintain access to facility and parking areas
  • Assist in maintaining building exteriors, grounds, and athletic fields
  • Assist in maintaining building interiors and equipment
  • Keep all storage facilities neat, clean, and orderly
  • Assist with minor plumbing, carpentry, painting, and routine equipment maintenance
  • Troubleshoot, assess, repair, and replace damaged and worn items
  • Operate and perform preventative maintenance on small grounds keeping machinery
  • Maintain in good working order all tools and equipment
  • Assure the security and accurate inventory of all tools and equipment
  • Proactively seek and repair facility, fleet, and grounds issues
  • Operate passenger vehicle for transporting buses and vans
  • Assist with transporting equipment and supplies for special events
  • Implement and observe standard Organizational Safety/Security Policies and Procedures

Requirements

  • CPR Certification
  • 3 years of driving experience
  • Valid Driver's License
  • First Aid Certification
  • Ability to operate maintenance vehicles and machinery safely
  • Ability to safely operate hand and power tools
  • Ability to prioritize activities and meet deadlines
  • Ability to work with little direction
  • Must pass a pre-employment health screening and participate in drug and alcohol screening program
  • Willingness to obtain Commercial Drivers' License within 6 months of hire
  • Must pass criminal records check and Dept. of Corrections Community Work Service screening
  • Ability to achieve and maintain first aid and CPR certification
  • Must pass a name-based and fingerprint criminal records background check
