About the position

The Maintenance Leader at the Department of Veterans Affairs is responsible for overseeing the work performed by various maintenance staff, including Maintenance Workers, Carpenters, Locksmiths, Painters, Pipefitters, and Industrial Equipment Mechanics. This role involves planning, assigning tasks, coordinating with other supervisors, and ensuring the maintenance and repair of critical systems and building structures within the medical center. The incumbent will also provide technical expertise and lead minor projects related to building maintenance.

Responsibilities

  • Plan and assign work to maintenance staff, ensuring effective use of equipment and materials.
  • Establish deadlines, priorities, and work sequences for maintenance tasks.
  • Coordinate work with other supervisors and departments to ensure smooth operations.
  • Schedule and determine preventive maintenance for all essential equipment.
  • Develop work statements for service contracts related to maintenance.
  • Provide technical expertise in maintenance and repair of building structures and critical systems.
  • Inspect completed work for quality and compliance with work order requirements.
  • Ensure safe work practices and proper access to tools and personal protective equipment.
  • Determine training needs for subordinates and track progress on work assignments.
  • Investigate work-related problems and recommend solutions.

Requirements

  • Demonstrated experience or training in maintenance and repair work.
  • Ability to interpret instructions and specifications, including blueprint reading.
  • Experience with equipment assembly, installation, and repair.
  • Knowledge of materials and measuring instruments used in maintenance work.
  • Technical practices related to the use and maintenance of tools and equipment.

  • Experience in a supervisory role within a maintenance environment.
