About the position

The Maintenance Supervisor-Lock Tech at Willacy State Jail is responsible for overseeing the maintenance department, ensuring compliance with directives from Management & Training Corporation (MTC) and the Texas Department of Criminal Justice (TDCJ). This role involves supervising maintenance technicians and clerks, performing repairs on facility locks and doors, and ensuring safety regulations are followed. The position offers opportunities for career advancement while contributing to the safety and well-being of the community and those within the facility.

Responsibilities

  • Supervise maintenance technicians and maintenance clerk.
  • Perform maintenance and repair of facility locks and doors, electronics, and related systems.
  • Repair or replace locks, doors, keys, seals, etc.
  • Assist with the repair or replacement of faulty or damaged light fixtures, outlets, and fuses as directed.
  • Install window shades or coverings, security locks, etc.
  • Help prepare surfaces for finishing, such as painting, as directed.
  • Provide on-call support in emergency situations when equipment malfunctions.
  • Follow all safety regulations, including the use of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE).
  • Maintain accountability of staff, offenders, and property; adhere to safety practices.
  • Perform other duties as assigned within capabilities determined by management.

Requirements

  • Graduation from an accredited senior high school or equivalent or GED.
  • Three years of full-time, wage-earning experience as a millwright, detention equipment technician, or in electronics.
  • Courses completed in a maintenance or construction-related field from a trade or technical school may substitute for required experience on a year-for-year basis, up to two years.
  • Valid driver's license in Texas with an acceptable driving record required.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience in the supervision of offenders preferred.
