About the position

The Maintenance Supervisor-Lock Tech at Willacy State Jail is responsible for overseeing the maintenance department, ensuring compliance with directives from Management & Training Corporation (MTC) and the Texas Department of Criminal Justice (TDCJ). This role involves supervising maintenance technicians and clerks, performing repairs and maintenance on facility locks, doors, and related systems, and ensuring safety practices are followed. Responsibilities

  • Supervise maintenance technicians and maintenance clerk.
  • Perform maintenance and repair of facility locks and doors, electronics, and other related systems.
  • Repair or replace locks, doors, keys, seals, etc.
  • Assist with the repair or replacement of faulty or damaged light fixtures, outlets, and fuses as directed.
  • Install window shades or coverings, security locks, etc.
  • Help prepare surfaces for finishing, i.e., painting, as directed.
  • Perform on-call support in emergency situations when equipment malfunctions.
  • Follow all safety regulations, including the use of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE).
  • Maintain accountability of staff, offenders, and property; adhere to safety practices.
  • Perform other duties as assigned within capabilities as determined by management.

Requirements

  • Graduation from an accredited senior high school or equivalent or GED.
  • Three (3) years full-time, wage-earning experience as a millwright, detention equipment technician, or in electronics.
  • Courses completed in a maintenance or construction-related field from a trade or technical school may substitute for the required experience on a year-for-year basis for a maximum substitution of two (2) years.
  • Experience in the supervision of offenders preferred.
  • Valid driver's license in the state of Texas with an acceptable driving record required.
