About the position

The apprenticeship program at Rain Bird Corporation is designed to introduce individuals to the field of injection molding, with the goal of developing into a Mold Maker or Tooling Engineer. This two-year, 4000-hour apprenticeship includes enrollment in Pima Community College courses and aims to equip apprentices with essential skills and hands-on experience in various aspects of injection molding, including maintenance, fabrication, and troubleshooting of tooling components.

Responsibilities

  • Identify mold issues, troubleshoot, and recommend solutions.
  • Set up and operate tool room equipment with tight tolerances, including surface grinders, milling machines, lathes, EDM, wire EDM, and CNC machines.
  • Calculate shrinkage for resins accurately.
  • Read and understand mold drawings, 3D designs, and part drawings.
  • Perform mold repairs and fabrication of mold parts, including engineering changes and maintenance work according to procedures and best practices.
  • Maintain proper records of activities and time required to complete tasks.
  • Provide verbal and written reports on activities and progress.
  • Handle special projects as requested.
  • Report to the tool room supervisor on matters requiring attention.
  • Apply and use safety procedures and devices for accident prevention.

Requirements

  • High School diploma or GED
  • Eligible to enroll in Pima Community College
  • Strong problem-solving skills
  • Experience with hand tools
  • Attention to detail and ability to work independently
  • Ability to multi-task
