The Maintenance Mechanic position reports through the Maintenance Department within the Lawrence Production Center. Individuals in this department provide the necessary skills to install and maintain the production equipment in support of manufacturing. The Maintenance Mechanic in Lawrence is full time 40 hours a week, Sunday night through Friday morning, 11:30pm - 8:00am. The Maintenance Mechanic demonstrates a broad range of mechanical and troubleshooting skills by having the ability to repair equipment that ranges from simplistic (i.e. batch counter) to complex (i.e. troubleshooting PLC/Ladder logic programming). Specialists install machinery and equipment to be used in production or related process by assembling, leveling, and securing the equipment. Specialists are also responsible for making the necessary electrical, compressed air, gas, and water connections. They dismantle machinery as required, transport, reassemble, and make new connections when either moving from one location to another or disposing of equipment. Specialists repair and maintain machinery/equipment to keep in compliance with safety, blueprints, and manufacturer specifications. Maintenance Specialists install/troubleshoot/repair electrical wiring, replace belts, fabricate parts, read schematics, and troubleshoot Programmable Logic Controllers (PLC), etc. They also may be asked to modify existing equipment or designs and build new machines to improve capacity, quality, safety, or cost. Specialists instruct operators and Operations Supervisors in the operation of new or modified equipment and work with them until they can satisfactorily and safely operate the equipment. They often transport and handle hazardous waste material in-accordance-with all Federal, State, and Local regulations. They positively participate in performance dialogue and other team problem-solving activities, identify potential problems, and show willingness to proactively work on problem resolution and alternative solutions to traditional methods of operation. Specialists must take the initiative to help problem solve and drive performance initiatives. Flexibility is key as the incumbent will be expected to move to different work areas as needed.
