About the position

The Maintenance Mechanic position at Monument Health's Custer Plant Operations is a part-time role requiring 24 hours of work per week. The primary responsibility of this position is to utilize mechanical, technical, physical, and communication skills to maintain a safe, reliable, and comfortable healthcare environment. The Maintenance Mechanic will carry out daily corrective and preventative maintenance tasks, ensuring that all systems are functioning optimally to contribute positively to patient care. This includes staying updated on current technological issues and making informed decisions regarding maintenance work. The role also involves purchasing materials and planning, laying out, and completing associated work efficiently. In this position, the Maintenance Mechanic will be expected to perform a variety of tasks, including but not limited to light bulb and ballast replacement, minor electrical repairs, and plumbing repairs such as faucet replacements and valve repairs. The mechanic will also be responsible for upper-level corrective and preventative maintenance to ensure a safe and comfortable environment for patients, visitors, and staff. Familiarity with building utility systems is essential, as the mechanic will respond to calls related to electrical, plumbing, HVAC, natural gas, and hydronic systems, performing regular and emergency maintenance as required. Additionally, the Maintenance Mechanic will troubleshoot and repair hospital systems, responding to calls related to medical gas systems, nurse call systems, elevators, and more. The role requires the ability to fasten or remove various items and equipment using proper techniques, evaluate and complete daily work orders, and document repairs in a timely manner. The mechanic must consistently demonstrate a thorough knowledge of maintenance performance standards and perform all functions competently within the scope of practice. Other duties may be assigned as necessary to support the overall operations of the facility.

Responsibilities

  • Perform daily corrective and preventative maintenance tasks.
  • Repair light bulbs, ballasts, and minor electrical issues.
  • Repair faucets and other hospital-related plumbing equipment.
  • Respond to calls related to electrical, plumbing, HVAC, and other building utility systems.
  • Troubleshoot and repair hospital systems, including medical gas and nurse call systems.
  • Document work and repairs accomplished in a timely manner.
  • Assist with maintenance work as assigned.
  • Demonstrate knowledge of maintenance performance standards.

Requirements

  • Mechanical and technical skills relevant to maintenance work.
