About the position

The Maintenance Mechanic Lead- Academic Maintenance at Towson University is responsible for performing semi-skilled general maintenance and preventive maintenance work on building systems and equipment. This role includes supervising other mechanics, ensuring operational readiness and safety of equipment, and leading maintenance tasks. The position typically follows a Monday to Friday schedule with occasional weekend duties on a rotational basis.

Responsibilities

  • Daily inspection of all building components and equipment in assigned areas.
  • Perform comprehensive preventative maintenance and repairs on mechanical systems and structural components.
  • Respond to maintenance requests and troubleshoot problems.
  • Serve as lead worker and backup for the Area Maintenance chief.
  • Supervise area maintenance mechanics and lead training for unskilled and semi-skilled personnel.
  • Inspect mechanical and structural components to ensure operational readiness and safety.
  • Prepare recurring reports reflecting daily operations and project status.
  • Ensure adequate supplies, materials, and equipment are maintained in assigned areas.
  • Operate and maintain tools and equipment of the area where assigned.
  • Assist journey level trades personnel in skilled maintenance and repair work.

Requirements

  • Four years of relevant experience, with three years in the assigned trade area.
  • General knowledge of semi-skilled building construction or maintenance practices.
  • Skill in the use of tools and equipment related to the trade.
  • Ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions.
  • Ability to communicate effectively and prepare estimates of time and materials.

  • Experience in higher education maintenance environments.
  • Knowledge of safety practices and procedures related to maintenance work.
