About the position

The Maintenance Mechanic at ProMedica Fostoria Community Hospital is responsible for performing a variety of routine-to-skilled maintenance duties to ensure the proper operation, alteration, and corrective maintenance of building facilities, equipment, and utility systems. The role prioritizes patient comfort and safety, requiring sound judgment and rapid decision-making during system failures. The mechanic will engage in both scheduled and unscheduled maintenance tasks across various systems, including electrical, plumbing, HVAC, and more.

Responsibilities

  • Perform maintenance services in electrical, mechanical, plumbing, pneumatic, medical gas systems, and other related areas.
  • Conduct snow removal, lawn services, and other ground maintenance tasks.
  • Repair or replace plumbing components and operate drain cleaning equipment.
  • Troubleshoot problems, order parts, and perform repairs.
  • Install and repair drywall and ductwork.
  • Disassemble, troubleshoot, and repair mechanical equipment according to manufacturer service literature.
  • Repair or replace components in systems such as Nurse Call and various appliances.
  • Contact manufacturers for technical assistance and place orders for service or repair.
  • Manage Utility Management System interactions and generate equipment history reports.
  • Read and interpret technical instructions and schematics.
  • Repair, install, replace, and test electrical circuits and components.
  • Gather data, report, and recommend remedial actions on systems as needed.
  • Inspect and perform safety tests on systems and equipment.
  • Monitor and inspect work for compliance with codes and regulations.
  • Conduct scheduled rounds of Plant Systems and document necessary adjustments.
  • Operate various equipment such as hand tools and diagnostic hardware.

Requirements

  • High School diploma or equivalent; Trade school diploma or degree from technical school.
  • 1-2 years previous experience in similar positions in an institutional setting.
  • Working knowledge of electricity, fire safety codes, refrigeration, and air conditioning codes.

Nice-to-haves

  • Licensed/Certified in one or more trades or disciplines.
