About the position

The Maintenance Mechanic Supervisor position at Great Smoky Mountains National Park involves overseeing the daily operations of the Facilities Maintenance Division. The role includes supervising skilled and semi-skilled trades, managing maintenance projects, ensuring safety and quality of work, and collaborating with engineering and architectural staff to preserve historic structures. The supervisor will also be responsible for scheduling, tracking project progress, and providing technical support in various maintenance and construction activities.

Responsibilities

  • Supervise the day-to-day operations of the work unit.
  • Provide technical support on preventive maintenance, new construction, repair, and rehabilitation of historic structures.
  • Create schedules and assign work to employees in skilled and semi-skilled trades.
  • Track progress and completion of various projects and maintenance duties.
  • Inspect work to ensure employee and public safety.
  • Assess structures for future planning and collaborate with engineering and architectural staff.
  • Inform the Buildings Branch manager about project statuses, budget updates, and personnel issues.
  • Serve as Point of Contact (POC) for smaller projects.

Requirements

  • Ability to lead or supervise effectively.
  • Knowledge of equipment assembly, installation, and repair.
  • Technical practices related to maintenance and construction.
  • Ability to interpret instructions and specifications, including blueprint reading.
  • Proficient in using and maintaining tools and equipment.
  • Knowledge of materials used in construction and maintenance.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience in historic preservation and restoration.
  • Familiarity with federal regulations regarding maintenance and construction.
  • Previous supervisory experience in a similar role.
