About the position

The Maintenance Mechanic Supervisor position at the Great Smoky Mountains National Park involves overseeing the Facilities Maintenance Division. The role includes supervising skilled trades, managing maintenance projects, and ensuring the preservation of historic structures. The incumbent will provide technical support, create work schedules, and ensure the safety and quality of maintenance operations.

Responsibilities

  • Supervise day-to-day operations of the work unit.
  • Provide technical support and knowledge on preventive maintenance and repairs.
  • Create schedules and assign work to employees.
  • Track progress and completion of various projects and maintenance duties.
  • Inspect work to ensure employee and public safety.
  • Assess structures for future planning.
  • Work closely with engineering and architectural staff.
  • Inform the Buildings Branch manager about project statuses and budget updates.
  • Serve as Point of Contact for smaller projects.

Requirements

  • Ability to lead or supervise.
  • Knowledge of equipment assembly, installation, and repair.
  • Technical practices (theoretical, precise, artistic).
  • Use of measuring instruments.
  • Ability to interpret instructions and specifications, including blueprint reading.
  • Ability to use and maintain tools and equipment.
  • Knowledge of materials.
