About the position

The Mechanic position at Boar's Head Provisions Co., Inc. is a critical role within the Facilities Maintenance department, primarily focused on the upkeep and repair of the plant's equipment. This position involves a variety of tasks aimed at ensuring the smooth operation of mechanical devices and systems within the facility. The successful candidate will be responsible for performing preventive maintenance, troubleshooting mechanical issues, and executing repairs as needed. The role requires a keen understanding of mechanical systems, as well as the ability to work collaboratively with other team members to meet production specifications in a safe and efficient manner. In this position, the Mechanic will observe mechanical devices in operation, listening for unusual sounds that may indicate trouble. They will dismantle devices to access and remove defective parts, examining the form and texture of these parts to detect imperfections. The Mechanic will also inspect used parts to determine if they meet dimensional requirements and make necessary adjustments to functional parts and control instruments. Repairing or replacing defective parts is a key responsibility, as is the installation of special functional and structural parts in devices. The Mechanic will lubricate and clean parts, start devices to test their performance, and set up and operate various metalworking tools such as drill presses and grinders to fabricate and repair parts. Additionally, the Mechanic must adhere to the company's Good Manufacturing Practices (GMPs), Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), and other policies and codes of conduct. Effective communication with team members and assisting other departments as assigned by the lead, supervisor, or manager are also essential components of this role. The Mechanic is expected to maintain a clean work area and follow both written and oral instructions diligently. This position offers opportunities for growth through Boar's Head's established training programs, with the potential for step increases based on performance and experience.

Responsibilities

  • Observes mechanical devices in operation and listens to their sounds to locate causes of trouble.
  • Dismantles devices to gain access to and remove defective parts.
  • Examines form and texture of parts to detect imperfections.
  • Inspects used parts to determine changes in dimensional requirements.
  • Adjusts functional parts of devices and control instruments.
  • Repairs or replaces defective parts.
  • Installs special functional and structural parts in devices.

  • Starts devices to test their performance.
  • Sets up and operates drill press, grinder, and other metalworking tools to make and repair parts.
  • Responsible for performing tasks as described and assigned by the department lead/supervisor.
  • Must work as a team player, ensuring product specifications are attained in a safe and efficient manner.
  • Communicate well with other team members.
  • Assist other departments as assigned by lead, supervisor or manager.
  • Must follow Company's GMP's, SOP's, plant rules, other policies and codes of conduct.
  • Must be able to follow written and oral instructions.
  • Strive to satisfy the requirements of both internal and external customers.
  • Responsible for keeping work area clean.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • High School diploma or GED.
  • Computer literate to complete daily work within a CMMS system.
  • Industrial maintenance experience preferred.
  • Strong knowledge of basic industrial mechanical systems, electricity, and utilities.
  • Ability to diagnose industrial mechanical systems, equipment, and utilities problems.
  • Strong knowledge of shop equipment setup and operation.
  • Strong TIG or stick welding experience.
  • Attend required vendor training as needed.
