About the position

The position at Kennestone Hospital involves maintaining and repairing a variety of mechanical and electrical equipment and systems. This includes, but is not limited to, pumps, motors, lamp ballasts, and light to medium carpentry work. The role also encompasses commercial door repairs, automatic door operators, light to medium sheetrock repairs, and general plumbing repairs involving valves, piping, and pneumatic control air systems and compressors when applicable. The technician will be expected to perform work ranging from apprentice to journeyman level, ensuring that all tasks are completed to the highest standards of quality and safety. In addition to repairs, the position requires performing preventative maintenance on assigned equipment and systems. This includes responding to service requests, identifying the complexity of the work required, and determining the necessary tools and materials. The technician will prepare purchase requisitions for spare parts and materials, ensuring that all documentation is completed in a timely manner to meet budget requirements. The role also involves maintaining an inventory of critical spare parts and materials to ensure continuity of operations. The technician will conduct monthly tours of assigned work zones, noting any repairs required and conducting inspections of fire and smoke walls to ensure compliance with code. The position requires proactive communication with the Coordinator regarding any deficiencies or repairs needed, ensuring that all work is documented and compliant with relevant codes and standards. Overall, this role is essential for maintaining the operational integrity of the hospital's facilities and ensuring a safe environment for patients and staff.

Responsibilities

  • Respond to telephoned service requests and detailed project work orders on a daily basis.
  • Identify the complexity of the work required, tools necessary, and spare parts and materials needed to complete the job.
  • Prepare purchase requisitions for spare parts and materials and submit for approval to the Coordinator.
  • Make all repairs requested in a timely fashion and document completion on the computerized maintenance management system.
  • Assist in maintaining on-hand critical spare parts and materials by conducting periodic inventory and requisitioning replacements.
  • Rekey locks, repair and unlock automatic and manual doors, and repair/build locks, knobs, and handles as applicable.
  • Receive preventative maintenance work requests and assess requirements for completion.
  • Conduct preventative maintenance as specified in the work request and follow through until completion.
  • Report any deficiencies related to preventative maintenance efforts to the Coordinator immediately.
  • Turn in completed PM documentation on the date the work is completed to ensure timely closure in the CMMS system.
  • Make monthly tours of assigned work zone and note all repairs required for completion.
  • Conduct inspections of above the ceiling fire and smoke walls to ensure penetrations are sealed as required by Code.
  • Notify the Coordinator of required repairs in writing to ensure proactive repair efforts.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the Coordinator.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED required.
  • Minimum 3 years experience in general mechanical maintenance and repairs.
  • Basic knowledge in Electrical, Plumbing, HVAC, some TV, nurse call systems, medical air, and automatic/manual doors.
  • Good mechanical repair skills and light electrical skills, including troubleshooting and repair of pumps, motors, and pneumatic control air systems.
  • Experience in light to medium plumbing repairs, commercial door repair and installation, and automatic door operator repairs.
  • Knowledge in light carpentry and sheetrock work and repairs.
  • Working knowledge of power tools, hand tools, and diagnostic equipment related to the disciplines above.
  • Ability to read and follow blueprints and a basic understanding of NFPA and Life Safety Codes applicable in a healthcare environment.
  • Computer literate.
