About the position

The Maintenance Mechanic position within the Department of the Air Force is primarily responsible for performing metal welding work involved in the manufacture, repair, modification, and assembly of various types of metal and alloy parts, equipment, systems, and structures. This role requires skilled methods and techniques to construct, install, repair, and modify a wide variety of structures while ensuring adherence to safety practices and procedures.

Responsibilities

  • Plan and lay out work from blueprints, sketches, drawings, specifications, and work orders to conduct various welding processes.
  • Independently apply skilled methods, techniques, and advanced shop mathematics to construct, install, repair, and modify structures.
  • Perform masonry tasks involved in the maintenance, repair, alteration, and construction of interior and exterior surfaces and structures.
  • Utilize safety practices and procedures following established safety rules and regulations to maintain a safe and clean environment.
  • Use and maintain tools required for welding and masonry tasks.

Requirements

  • U.S. Citizenship is required.
  • Ability to perform the work of a Maintenance Mechanic without more than normal supervision.
  • Knowledge of a wide range of welding principles, processes, and techniques.
  • Knowledge of proper carpentry and masonry methods, techniques, and tools/equipment.
  • Skill in using, setting up, operating, and maintaining a variety of hand tools and power tools.

Nice-to-haves

  • Certification for working with and/or removing hazardous material.
  • Current certification to perform various types of welding work.
