About the position

The Maintenance Mechanic at the Battle Creek VA Medical Center is responsible for performing a variety of maintenance tasks to ensure the proper functioning of facilities. This role involves visual examinations, operational testing, and repair work at the journeyman level, contributing to the overall maintenance and safety of the medical center's infrastructure.

Responsibilities

• Perform visual examinations and operational testing of facilities.
• Conduct repair work at the journeyman level.
• Construct walls, ceilings, and flooring systems.
• Install and repair finishes, doors, locks, and trim.
• Make repairs to wall finishes including plaster, drywall, and paint surfaces.
• Install and repair masonry walls and concrete slabs or foundations.
• Demolish architectural systems as required and clean up work areas.
• Check and repair door and builder's hardware, and mount framed items.

Requirements

• Must be a U.S. citizen to apply.
• Experience or training in maintenance work is required, with evidence of ability to perform the duties of the position.
• Ability to interpret instructions and specifications, including blueprint reading.
• Knowledge of materials, measurement, and layout.
• Proficient in using and maintaining tools and equipment with minimal supervision.
