About the position

Florida Atlantic University (FAU) is seeking a Maintenance Mechanic to join its team in Boca Raton, Florida. The Maintenance Mechanic will be responsible for performing routine maintenance and repairs on various structures, facilities, equipment, and other university property across multiple trade disciplines, including electrical, plumbing, masonry, and carpentry. This role is essential in ensuring that the university's physical environment is safe, functional, and conducive to learning and working. The Maintenance Mechanic will utilize the University Work Order system to respond to, work on, and complete assigned tasks efficiently. Responsibilities include general maintenance and replacement tasks, as well as minor plumbing repairs to restrooms, drinking fountains, and plumbing fixtures. The role also involves performing minor electrical repairs, replacement, and installation tasks of various electrical components. Additionally, the Maintenance Mechanic will prepare and execute various special projects, such as painting, carpentry, plumbing, masonry, and office remodeling, contributing to the overall upkeep and improvement of university facilities. Preventative maintenance inspections on university buildings are a critical part of this position, ensuring that potential issues are identified and addressed proactively. The Maintenance Mechanic will also perform other work as assigned by the Superintendent, demonstrating flexibility and a willingness to support the broader maintenance team as needed. This position is vital for maintaining the university's infrastructure and providing a safe and welcoming environment for students, staff, and faculty.

Responsibilities

  • Perform routine maintenance and repairs on structures, facilities, equipment, and other University property in one or more of the trade disciplines, e.g., electrical, plumbing, masonry, carpentry, locks.
  • Use the University Work Order system to respond, work, and complete assigned tasks.
  • Perform general maintenance, replacement tasks, and minor plumbing repairs to restrooms, drinking fountains, and plumbing fixtures.
  • Perform minor electrical repairs, replacement, and installation tasks of various electrical components.
  • Prepare and perform various special projects, e.g., painting, carpentry, plumbing, masonry, locks, office remodeling.
  • Perform preventative maintenance inspections on University buildings.
  • Perform other work as assigned by Superintendent.

Requirements

  • High school diploma required.
  • Four (4) years of appropriate experience required.
