About the position

The Maintenance Mechanic at Allegheny Health Network is responsible for handling all mechanical repairs throughout the hospital, which includes a variety of tasks related to electrical and plumbing systems. This role is crucial in ensuring that the hospital's facilities are maintained to the highest standards, providing a safe and functional environment for both patients and staff. The mechanic will perform equipment and materials fabrication, which includes miscellaneous installations and repairs, such as fixing wheelchairs and beds. Additionally, the position involves updating and repairing hospital plumbing systems, conducting electrical repairs, and performing light carpentry and other trades as needed. In this role, the Maintenance Mechanic will respond to service and emergency calls regarding any maintenance repair, electrical, or plumbing problems that arise within the hospital. This includes a proactive approach to maintenance, ensuring that all systems are functioning properly and addressing any issues that may disrupt hospital operations. The mechanic will also be responsible for maintaining locks, keys, and door-related apparatus, ensuring security and accessibility throughout the facility. Furthermore, the position requires a commitment to personal accountability for knowledge and application of Department of Health (DOH), Joint Commission, and Infection Control Risk Assessment (ICRA) requirements, which are essential for maintaining compliance and safety standards within the healthcare environment.

Responsibilities

  • Performs equipment and materials fabrication including miscellaneous installations and repairs (including repairs to wheelchairs and beds).
  • Updates and repairs hospital plumbing systems, electrical repairs, light carpentry and other trades.
  • Responds to service and emergency calls regarding any maintenance repair, electrical or plumbing problem.
  • Maintains locks and keys and door related apparatus.
  • Demonstrates personal accountability for knowledge and application of DOH, Joint Commission and ICRA requirements.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED; or one to three months of related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Basic working knowledge of a wide range of mechanical equipment.

Nice-to-haves

  • Stationary Engineering training as well as training in plumbing, HVAC, and/or electrical.
  • Certification in Proper Refrigeration Practices Type I and Type II.
  • Prior mechanical experience including burning and welding.
  • Prior Healthcare Experience.
