The Maintenance & Operations Specialist Apprentice position at Prince William County Government is an entry-level training role designed to equip candidates with the necessary knowledge, skills, and experience to advance to a Maintenance and Operations Specialist position. This apprenticeship is part of the Auto Progression Program under the Facilities & Fleet Management (FFM) department, which aims to sustain the foundation of local democracy by ensuring that its activities align with the County's strategic plan and customer needs. The successful implementation of this strategic plan relies on a diverse, highly trained, and engaged workforce. As an apprentice, the selected candidate will undergo a two-year training program that includes hands-on experience in maintenance tasks involving the operation of vehicles, machinery, and the use of hand and power tools. While previous experience is not required, candidates must demonstrate a willingness to learn and work safely in potentially hazardous environments. The role requires a commitment to making satisfactory advancements throughout the training period, with the possibility of transitioning into a full Maintenance & Operations Specialist position upon successful completion of the program. Candidates must meet specific requirements, including possessing a valid Driver's License, passing various background checks, and being able to lift a minimum of 50 pounds regularly. The work schedule is full-time, typically Monday through Friday, with hours ranging from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., although adjustments may be made to meet operational needs. The starting salary for this position is $19.80 per hour, with the potential for increases based on performance and progression through the apprenticeship.
