About the position

Mecklenburg County Park and Recreation is excited to add a Maintenance and Operations Specialist to our team! This full-time position will work directly with the Park Operations Plumbing team and will assist with all necessary equipment operations and plumbing duties of our facility and park amenities. This includes but is not limited to renovation projects, repairing and installing water fountains and other plumbing fixtures. In addition, the selected candidate will oversee repairs to wells and sewer lift stations and assist with backflows and sewer/septic systems. This position may also perform repairs on our pools and spray grounds. The incumbent will be a key member of our team in ensuring our parks remain premier venues for our community and visitors. This position will work daytime hours during the week and weekends only as needed based on business demands. Responsibilities

  • Perform complex maintenance, repair, remodeling and renovation of various buildings, facilities, and equipment.
  • Ensure work is performed in accordance with accepted trade practices and in a safe manner with little waste of time and materials.
  • Prepare daily inspection reports, pre-trip checks, logs and operating records for equipment or infrastructure.
  • Train or supervise other subordinate staff in the operation or maintenance of various equipment.
  • Order materials and ensure that correct construction methods are utilized.
  • Coordinate work with sub-contractors and reviews materials and workmanship.
  • Confirm with supervisors and code enforcement that work and materials conform to required codes.
  • Assist with planning renovations and modifications of buildings and structures.
  • Estimate time, materials, and costs for repair work.
  • Maintain records and make reports as required for completed projects.
  • Communicate with staff and citizens regarding the maintenance needs and problems.
  • Make recommendations for routine renovation and building maintenance projects.
  • Engage in safe working practices and complies with safety programs and guidelines; report and monitor unsafe working conditions.

Requirements

  • Minimum of three (3) years of specialized maintenance experience directly related to the area of assignment.
  • High School Diploma or equivalent.
  • Requires a valid North Carolina or South Carolina Driver's License and County Driving Privileges; Depending on area of assignment, may require a Class A or Class B CDL.
  • General knowledge of applicable computer programs.

Nice-to-haves

  • Certified Pool Operator (CPO) Certification, or other applicable licenses/certifications.
  • Experience with equipment operations (skid steer, trencher, mini excavator, etc.).
  • Experience with installing/repairing water lines.
