About the position

The Maintenance & Reliability Manager at Ashland Specialty Ingredients plays a crucial role in ensuring the effective maintenance and reliability of the Hopewell, VA plant. This position is responsible for developing, implementing, and monitoring maintenance programs, managing mechanical integrity, and overseeing contract maintenance workers. The role requires collaboration with site leaders and corporate engineering to establish goals and objectives, while also ensuring compliance with safety and environmental regulations. The manager will lead a team, manage budgets, and foster a positive work environment to enhance productivity and operational efficiency.

Responsibilities

  • Develop, implement, and monitor plant maintenance programs.
  • Manage mechanical integrity programs and contract maintenance workers.
  • Work with Site Leaders and Corporate Engineering to establish maintenance and reliability engineering goals.
  • Participate in Safety and Environmental initiatives to ensure compliance with regulations.
  • Provide supplemental safety training as needed.
  • Manage the maintenance budget, including approving expenses and capital spending.
  • Utilize preventive and predictive maintenance methods to ensure safe operations.
  • Direct activities of Reliability Engineers to ensure compliance with PSM regulations.
  • Manage site Storeroom daily activities and spare parts inventory.
  • Train and develop staff for a well-maintained production facility.
  • Recognize employee efforts to increase productivity and reduce costs.

Requirements

  • Bachelor of Science Degree in Mechanical Engineering or related discipline with a minimum of 7 years' chemical plant manufacturing experience OR 20 years of plant experience with a minimum of 7 years in a maintenance manager role.
  • Well-versed in plant maintenance standards, engineering and project standards, Process Safety Management, and environmental compliance standards.
  • Ability to lead and manage others effectively and communicate well with employees at all levels.
  • Experience in responding appropriately during site emergencies and utilizing personal protective equipment.

Nice-to-haves

  • Food and/or pharmaceutical experience preferred.
  • Knowledge of Lean/Six Sigma or other process improvement methodologies is a plus.
  • Experience in a union environment.
  • Experience with Maximo.
