About the position

The Maintenance Repair Tech II position at the Oklahoma Military Department involves a variety of responsibilities related to the construction, maintenance, repair, and upkeep of state buildings, grounds, and other properties. This role does not require a specific license but demands a solid understanding of various building trades. The technician will assist in the construction or renovation of buildings, perform general maintenance on plumbing, heating, air conditioning, electrical systems, and conduct minor repairs on machinery and equipment. Additionally, the role includes maintaining the grounds and lawns of state properties. In this position, the technician will perform carpentry work, which includes constructing or renovating buildings and making alterations to existing structures. Responsibilities also encompass erecting and maintaining scaffolds, forms, and fences, as well as repairing doors, floors, and windows. The technician will be tasked with installing and maintaining plumbing fixtures, making minor repairs to various types of equipment, and troubleshooting electrical issues that do not require a license. Furthermore, the role involves maintaining and repairing heating, refrigeration, and air-conditioning equipment, as well as installing and maintaining locks and security devices. The technician will also be responsible for constructing and repairing concrete foundations, retaining walls, and other structures, as well as operating and maintaining various types of construction and maintenance equipment. This position requires a strong knowledge of the principles, methods, materials, and tools used in building and maintenance trades, along with the ability to follow both written and oral instructions. Physical demands include the ability to lift and carry a minimum of 40 pounds, work in extreme weather conditions, and climb ladders and stairs. The position is full-time and requires a commitment to a 12-month trial period, passing a background check, and maintaining a valid driver's license.

Responsibilities

  • Perform carpentry work in the construction or renovation of buildings.
  • Erect and maintain scaffolds, sheds, forms, frames, fences, and other structures.
  • Alter and repair doors, floors, partitions, stairways, windows, screens, and other fixtures.
  • Fit and glaze glass in windows and doors; maintain and repair roofs.
  • Install, replace, alter, maintain, and repair plumbing fixtures such as sinks, traps, and faucets.
  • Make minor repairs to laundry, sterilization, and kitchen equipment.
  • Maintain and repair light fixtures, receptacles, and switches; replace light bulbs.
  • Maintain generators and motors; troubleshoot and make electrical repairs not requiring a license.
  • Maintain and make minor repairs to heating, refrigeration, and air-conditioning equipment.
  • Install and maintain locks and other security devices; repair or replace tumblers and springs.
  • Construct, maintain, and repair concrete foundations and similar projects.
  • Operate, maintain, and repair various types of construction and maintenance equipment.

Requirements

  • Four (4) years of experience in one or more of the building trades or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Knowledge of the principles, methods, materials, fixtures, tools, and equipment used in various building and maintenance trades.
  • Skill in using various tools and equipment for maintenance and repair tasks.
  • Ability to follow written and oral instructions.
